A true
virus is different from
Malware.
The
intent
differs in that the purpose of a virus is to destroy your
computer
system. Viruses are spread when they are taken to another
computer via removable disks or
sent over computer networks
like
LAN's or the
Internet. Email is a popular vehicle
viruses
use to
get
around.
Viruses also reproduce themselves. Viruses
are
so named because of the way they mimic
biological viruses. The way viruses move from host to host then
reproduce.
You don't have to be online to
realize you've
got a
virus. Being infected with a
virus is a serious problem and
normally misdiagnosed by the average computer user. The odds
of
you contracting
a virus thats been written to damage your computer are
low.
There
isn't
any money to be made by malicious programmers if they
ruin your
computer. If
they're
going to spend the time to write malicious programs,
why not write them to make money for themselves
right? More than
likely if you feel
there is something wrong with
your computer and you think you have a
virus, its
probably
just
Malware.
Try running an anti Malware through your system
first before
reaching out for an anti virus program.
Anti virus programs
are relatively large. Downloading large
files is
a concern for dial
up
users. They all appear to
work
as well as the other in detecting
and removing
viruses. Some
have
more
features than others.
AVG anti
virus is one of
the largest
is a 60 MG
download. Thats a
large file to download. It may take hours to download
using
a dial up
connection. Even downloading the latest updated databases may
take alongtime.
If you're trying to download an update while
you're system
is currently infected with a virus it'll make it
that much
harder.
You'll have a better chance at successfully
downloading
a smaller anti virus
package. I'm currently using an
open source
anti virus program called Clamwin. It's just under 25 MG
is
size, still relatively small for an anti virus application.
Of
course being its
open
source software, its free
as well.
Clamwin updates daily but doesn't take
that much
time to do so. There
are
several free computer virus removal programs available for
download. Do some researching
before deciding on
one.
